5:31 pm - Long live the Queen
|
Arrived at Heathrow safely... the hour long turbulence over the northeast didn't help, though. Went into Kingston yesterday, bought a T-Mobile phone for use here and while we're in Spain.
Damn this UK keyboard.
Today we went to the Natural History Museum, always fun.
Monday and Tuesday I work from the Google London offices... woo! Right outside Victoria Station, so it should be a breeze to get in and out of work. I love public transportation.
Wednesday we head up to Manchester are to visit family. Then sometime next week we head to Paris and then Madrid.

11:38 am - Virginia Burley Photos
|
Since my mom has passed away, we're digging through and scanning all of the old photos. I thought I'd put some nifty highlights out of the old photos here.
The full list of scans can be found here.
I just threw on the recent one, but there are plenty of in-between shots at the link above.

From Clare's email that went out this morning:
Hi everyone, sorry for the mass email for such sad news, but I wanted to let you all know that after her long, hard twelve-year battle with cancer, Josh's mother passed away last night. We've appreciated all of your support and kind words, thoughts and gestures over the years, and so did Ginny.

11:10 am - Health updates
|
Ok, sorry I haven't updated this in awhile...
Surgery went well, and quickly, for my mom. They removed the old implant from her breast (it wasn't strictly cosmetic, it was placed after her initial masectomy). A followup visit with the surgeon had him telling us he didn't think it was a tumor, and was just a nasty infection. A later visit confirmed that, yes, it was just an infection. However, because of where it's at the wound is having trouble healing. And, she's off her chemo for awhile while waiting for it to try and heal.
The PET scan results also came in (or rather, I finally called the office to find out what the results were), and didn't show anything out of the ordinary or unexpected. Phew!
My aunt is still in town trying to help me out... my mom's depression over all this is probably the worst I've ever seen it. Won't get out of bed, won't eat. Won't change or clean her dressing (so how's it gonna heal!). Argues with her sister when she tries to get her to eat or out of bed. Didn't want to call the doctor's to find out PET results (which I can understand, but not if you're not moving on with your life until you hear the results... if you are living a full life, sure, don't tell me the bad news).
Ah well, anyways, that's the latest! Thanks for everyone's good vibes, they did the trick! Now just vibe her outta bed and eating!

11:12 am - cancer update
|
The surgeon didn't bother with a biopsy, and said it's definitely a tumor, and needs to come out as soon as possible. My mom told him of her Oncologist's worry that it wouldn't heal, he said they'd do a staple or something else, it didn't matter, it had to come out. So, they'll be removing the breast that it's on entirely (I believe it's the same one that was "removed" originally, 8 or 9 years ago now, but must still have some tissue there, even tho it was a "radical masectomy").
So, surgery is set for Friday. All that said, the surgeon said it's be out-patient surgery (??!!), and she'd probably be home the same day. Crazy.
PET scan is tomorrow, to see if any tumors are cruising around in other organs other than her (let's take a tally now): lungs, brain, breast. So far we've cut out the brain tumor, cutting out the rest of the breast Friday, and the lungs is being treated with chemo so far.
