I spent my evening last night making these:
Sparkly vanilla snowmen and chocolate peanut butter present chocolate covered pretzels!
And wasabi pea and crystallized ginger chocolate bark. Highly addictive. ;)
In other news yesterday we had our holiday party at work, full of lots of yummy food. After the party we found out the results of our test. We’ve been taking a class for the past few months and had a pretty comprehensive test last week, to see what we’d learned. And out of the 3 departments that took the class, I got the highest score out of everyone. Yay :D As a reward the high score people got presents, and since I was the highest I got to pick first, and I got a season 5 Buffy DVD box set. Not bad. ;)

9:07p I baked
Wow did I bake. I'm very happy to be done. After a horrible apricot start, things got rolling and I think everything turned out okay. I mean, making basic truffles are easy, so I put those in with everything else. When I first planned the assortment, 90% of it was chocolate. At the end of things only 2 of the 6 were chocolate.
I've been leaning against chocolate for awhile personally. I don't know why. It sure is tasty at times, but I'm digging other flavours more. Hrm. Honestly, right now I'm feeling savory products more. After I finish A's cookies she dropped off. Damn her.

Okies, so I’m at work and want to try to write a quick update here about my weekend, but I have lots to say! So I’ll try to make it as short and sweet as I can.
First off, here’s our Christmas tree! It’s my first ever tree that was mine and not family’s, and I think it’s adorable and I love the peacock topper! :D

Ok so on Thursday night Mark wanted to celebrate my birthday just the two of us. He took me out to dinner at One World, where we wound up sitting across from John Astin, Gomez from “The Addams Family”, which made Mark go into total fanboy mode. :) It kind of sucked because I was super tired from running around nonstop last week, so I was kind of out of it all night, but I had fun anyway.
Mark gave me some very thoughtful presents. :D He gave me the most ridiculously awesome Hello Kitty birthday card, that when you press a button blindingly bright flashing lights go off. It is the most obnoxious card ever and I love it.
He also gave me this awesome antique birdcage I was eyeing up in Ellicott City, as well as some art nouveau style pins, a double disc Beatles CD, a tool kit that’s pink!, and a piece of pineapple cheesecake and key lime pie from the Amish Market. *drool*
Friday night after work we drove up to Hightstown, NJ to stay with Jeff and Brian for the weekend to celebrate my actual birthday on Saturday. The plan was to go into NYC to see the Tim Burton Exhibit at the MOMA, but the weather had other plans. Because of snow, we wound up staying in town, and I had a pretty awesome birthday in spite of the change of plans.
We decided to spend the day inside making a bunch of stuff. We bought all kinds of kits…gingerbread teddy bear cookies, chocolate covered pretzel making kit, a suncatcher kit, and a ceramic magnet kit. We wound up not getting around to the suncatcher and magnet kits, but we made a ton of sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, and chocolate covered pretzels. Here are some pics!
Here is the full spread of everything we made:
( More under here )
For dinner we braved the snow and went to this really good sushi place. Then it was back to their house to watch this pretty amusing show called “The Guild”.
Oh and Saturday morning we all exchanged presents. It made me happy that Dash loved the squeaky sock monkey toy that I got him. He kept squeaking it repeatedly all weekend. I’m sure Jeff and Brian were not as happy that I got him that toy. Hah hah I got a bunch of cool presents from Jeff and Brian. Let’s see…they gave me this funny birthday card that says on the front, “Holy shit you’re old!”. Hah hah I got vanilla body butter, a lavender salt scrub, this *adorable* apron with kittens with Christmas balls and polka dots. I cannot wait to wear it!! Peppermint green tea, a big plush glow in the dark dog Skeleanimal, a gift card to Morning Glory (this awesome shop in Princeton that has tons of cute Sanrio and Japanese toys), and a gift card to Niko Niko (this awesome shop owned by the same people who own Morning Glory, that sell lots of cute Asian inspired clothes…Tokidoki, lots of pop artists, stuff of that nature).
Sunday we spent the day in Princeton, which really is such an adorable town, especially during Christmas time. :)
Here’s a pic of Brian, Jeff, and me in Princeton:

We went shopping so Mark could redeem his gift card Jeff and Brian gave him for this awesome cooking store and so I could redeem my gift cards at Morning Glory and Niko Niko.
I wound up getting this adorable wallet at Morning Glory that has little pieces of sad sushi on it that say “Don’t Eat Us! We love you!” and there’s a zipper pull of a soy sauce container that’s really happy. As if to say go ahead and eat the sushi! I will make them more tasty for you! And I got the cutest bento box. It’s pink with pictures of desserts all over it, and it says “Delicious Time” and the company is Linda Linda Beatles Inc, which cracked me up.
In Niko Niko I wound up getting this adorable gold on the front and red and white polkadot on the back cat pouch that has a 50’s style cat on it, with an actual bow and jewel in it’s hair, and this really cool flappery dangly necklace. I wound up talking with one of the girls that works there, who I’ve seen in Morning Glory every time I’ve gone there, as each year Jeff and Brian get me a gift card to that store. :D Anyway, the girl said she loved my octopus necklace. I told her I made it and next thing I know she said she wants to sell it there! Yay! Here’s the store for anyone curious: Niko Niko
Then it was off to tasty Indian for lunch/dinner, back to Jeff and Brian’s to lounge for a bit, and it was time to hit the road to come back home. Got home and had to dig the 2 feet of snow off of my car. Ugh. I’m so glad we did it last night though instead of today.
Oh and when I got home I saw that someone bought my birdcage necklace on my etsy shop! So that’s one sale and one store interested in carrying my necklace this weekend! Score!
Today at work is our holiday party. I brought in a peppermint icing cake. :D We have our holiday party from 12:30-2 and then a meeting from 2-3, so today should hopefully be easy breezy. After work though I have to run around like crazy. Gotta get an oil change, then make bark and chocolate pretzel for Mark and his parents, then put up my octopus necklace on etsy for the store Niko Niko to see, then prepare my birdcage necklace to mail off.
Aaand that’s all I got for now.

11:56a Unto Us a Child is Born
It is a pretty good time of the year to be nine months pregnant. The weather is cool, there is delicious food and treats everywhere, and people are generally in a cocoa-by-the-fire kind of mood (when they're not out shopping or getting sloshed). Plus there is this gorgeous anticipation of the birth of a small child on everyone's minds. Or, is that just me?
Since reaching the nine-month mark, I've made my peace with the possibility of the baby coming early. In fact, I half hope he will. I am ready to be un-pregnant again! Nevermind caring about his future birthday parties or lack thereof. I have never been more motivated to get into shape and be active! I can't wait to push my heart rate to the limit and be responsible for my own flesh, exclusive of another's survival! That sounds so selfish, I know; to think of myself before reveling in the wonder of a new baby, but that's where my mind is at right now. Perhaps everything will change once he is in my arms. (I expect it will.) Be right now, I have succumed to a can't-have, must-have phenomenan. Can't have alcohol. MUST HAVE ALCOHOL! Can't go running. MUST GO RUNNING. Can't wait to go pee. MUST GO PEE, AGAIN!!!
More things I wish I had known about pregnancy:
It can cause carpel tunnel syndrome. Mine is especially painful in my left hand, which I can barely make into a fist now. This has grown progressively worse with each passing week. Typing, however, is still no problem.
I would need to buy new shoes, not just new clothes. Shoes that are not only flat, but slide on and off without the use of hands, and that are AT LEAST one full size bigger than normal. Luckily I bought walking shoes when I first got pregnant, and the size was appropriate, but tying the shoelaces? I am about ready to call my neighbors. I swear I am squishing the baby when I strain to lean forward like that. None of my regular shoes fit me anymore, and even the shoes I purchased when I first became pregnant are tight and uncomfortable. The only things that work effortlessly are slippers and flip flops. The summertime preggers have this advantage over me.
The nesting instinct is in direct opposition to my level of energy, especially in this last trimester. I go to bed around 9 or 10 every night of the week, and am sometimes up before dawn. My energy level is high in the morning (just this morning I scrubbed the toilets, washed the mirrors and emptied the dishwasher before taking a shower), but by evening I barely have enough energy to peel myself from the couch to fix myself dinner. At this point it would be extremely helpful to be married, and have someone around full-time to take care of me and listen to me complain. At the same time, I take up the entire bed with my tossing and turning, and am up four times a night doing the bathroom shuffle. Maybe a friend of mine was right - maybe the whole "teamwork" thing is overrated.
I took pictures of myself on my bed this morning. Sexy, half-naked photos of my pregnant self, feeling rather feminine and confident. I will relish these last few weeks of quiet independence, of having the condo to myself, of going about my routines mostly uninterrupted, of calling my cat my baby.
